Study #2 :: Hideouts :: September 29, 2015

**Posted September 30, 2015**

It is currently 6:15 P.M. It is currently partly cloudy and 65 degrees. The high temperature today was 67 degrees, and the low was 50 degrees. The sun rose at 7:40:12 A.M. this morning, and the sun will set at 7:26:18 P.M. making the day length 11 hours and 44 minutes. The smell is beginning to remind me of fall. That smell you can't really describe, but the air feels almost more pure. I don't here many birds, but there are some squirrels above me. Last time, I heard some objects dropping from above and they are coming from the same place now. When I look up, I see a cluster that looks like a nest. I'm wondering if this belongs to the squirrels or the birds. (This can be seen in the picture in the bottom left corner). The small middle picture is the remains of the boy's hideout. I love that they enjoy to play back here because my neighbors and I used to play here all the time. Until I started this field study, I hadn't been back here in years! The picture in the bottom right corner is some leaves above that are beginning to change. Fall is starting!

Study #1 :: Trees and Teepees :: September 15, 2015

Time: 5:51 P.M.

The weather forecast today is a high of 82 degrees and a low of 52 degrees. It is currently about 80 degrees, but it is a little bit breezy. The length of the day is 12:29:12 with the sunrise at 6:56:32 A.M. and 8:22:19 P.M. is the time of sunset. The smell here always smells like the beach. There's some beach grass and sand, which I think contributes to the smell that provokes my memories of the beach. However, there are a lot of evergreen trees. This adds the sappy smells of pines. I here lots of squirrels back here, and I believe I saw a crow just fly away from a tree. I here lots of different kinds of birds. I also keep hearing a dropping noise of small objects hitting the ground. I'm wondering if this is from an animal, or if these are the sounds of nuts and acorns falling from trees by themselves. It is coming from a general spot, and there is some rustling from up above, so I believe a squirrel might be causing this to happen. The boys across the street have built a teepee and are playing behind me. They have asked me not to photograph their secret location, and I'm going to respect their privacy. Though next time I hope to get a picture of the remains of their hideout.
